STANDARD
Voicescript have devised the following standard
transcription procedure. Please read this carefully and advise us on
page 1 of the booking form of any alterations to our standard procedure
that
you wish to make. We are happy to accommodate any transcription format
you require, however please note that any assignments which require extensive
editing (other than outlined below) or précising of content, may
incur an additional charge.
Speaker Identification
• We will label any 1-1 interview transcripts as ‘Interviewer’ and ‘Interviewee’,
unless the names of the individuals involved are advised to us, in which
case these will be personally identified on the script.
• For group interviews, small focus groups, etc where multiple speakers
are present, unless each speaker is clearly identified by name, these will
be labeled as 'Interviewer', 'Interviewee 1', 'Interviewee
2' etc.
• For large group recordings, where speakers are not introduced by name,
we shall identify speakers as 'Woman 1' or 'Man 1', 'Man
2', etc. Where there is particular difficulty in differentiating
speakers, a change of speaker will be shown as ‘New male speaker’,
etc and no identifier will be used.
• If you have indicated that no speaker identification is necessary,
a change of speaker will be indicated by simply visually separating each
speaker in a new section
Amendments to Spoken Content
• We will remove all habits of speech, such as 'um', 'you
know', 'know what I mean', etc unless you specify to
the contrary.
• We will retain correct speech abbreviations such as 'can't' and 'we're',
unless you request that we expand these to their full forms of 'cannot' 'we
are' etc.
• Content such as 'wanna' or 'gonna' will be changed
to 'want to' or 'going to'.
• We shall correct grammatical errors such as 'I were ..' to 'I
was ...' unless advised otherwise. An exception to this policy, due
to common usage, is 'ain't'. Please advise if you do
not wish us to use this.
• Where content includes swearing, mild forms may be included in full,
however stronger language will be signified with the insertion of asterisks.
Time Coding
• Unless specifically requested, time coding is not automatically
included on transcripts.
• Where this is requested, our standard policy is to show time codings
at the top, middle and towards the bottom of each page of the transcript.
If you wish us to show codes for each change of speaker, please advise.
An additional charge will be made where individual speaker timings are
requested.
Housekeeping Matters
• Unless specifically requested, we shall exclude all content relating
to housekeeping matters, such as fire evacuation procedures, lunch arrangements,
etc.
• Closing remarks will be included if this contains summaries of forthcoming
events, thanks to speakers, etc.
